6 Ranch

Enterprise, OR

Since 1884, five generations of our family have taken care of the land, river and animals that have sustained us here. Our daily work revolves around tending to our fortunate place here with everything we’ve got. We believe in upholding western traditions, restoring ecosystems and producing healthy food. Cattle are key to making it happen. Their grazing keeps weeds and undesirable plants in check, giving native grasses more room to thrive. They knead the soil where they move, replenishing nutrients for the long haul — no toxic chemical “enhancements” needed. Alongside that work: more work. Restoring rivers to their natural course to enhance salmon spawning habitat; improving wetlands and riparian areas. Clearing invasive juniper from acres of rangeland on the slopes around us. The reward:100% grass-fed beef, born and bred humanely, for people that value who their food comes from as much as where it comes from. If ever a place could be called something more than home, this would be it. Something older, wiser, even more elemental. A place we are born of, not just in. The land we’re on — we can’t claim to own. Our arrangement plays out in daily tests of wills and wonder and laws bigger than words. Both parties would probably agree on that. We are grounded to its soil and stones. Water, wood, and wind; animals and energies. A timeless and beautiful coexistence with What Is. Part of a silent and irrevocable pact struck some six generations ago. To respect its ways. Let its real nature be, uninterrupted. Wild, and rightfully so. This is our work here: To put back what we use. Set right what’s not. Honor our place; the traditions and the experience we’ve been given. In exchange, this land provides. And working together, it endures. Why Corrientes are right for us. This is a breed with real history to it, known for being especially hardy and naturally lean. Our immediate family — Adele, James, Liza Jane — all live on the 6 Ranch. We live, work, laugh, love, and play together here with our families. We also have each other’s backs when it comes to individual passion projects. Meet the wildlife in the water. Several years ago, 6 Ranch completed two important habit restoration projects on a nearby stretch of the Wallowa River. Returning this sensitive area to its natural state gave native plants, insects, fish, and wildlife the home they were meant to have. It’s a perfect spot to experience how a balanced ecosystem works. And from July – September, we offer guided fly-fishing trips here. If you really want to experience this land’s greatness, come stand in its water.
